We know things have been rather quiet here the latest weeks, however, it only means we been working really hard. In this DevLog, we will talk about some of the things we have been doing. In the near future our goal is to release a gameplay video, where we plan to show you some actual footage from the game.
We started implementing a dynamic weather system, which will generate various weather conditions during the game. This will later have an important role as extreme weather such as strong winds, low visibility and thunderstorms will impact the conditions on your runway, possibly creating delays and other problems. We also plan to include an unlockable forecasting systems so that the player can have upgrade the weather station, allowing the player to receive more detailed weather data in order to plan ahead and avoid heavy delays.
In our latest reddit post on /r/airportceo we asked the community to give us their take on the building mechanics of the game. We received many great suggestions and tips, which we have used in our overhaul of the building system. The building system now allows for placement of large structures such as runway and other external structures and the smallest of items such as trash bins. The external structures can be placed right on the map but the player must first lay the foundation of the terminal in order to place terminal items like check-in desks, baggage belts, seating and decoration. This creates a logical difference from what you can build externally and internally, which we have received a huge support for from the community.
Furthermore, we have been working on creating a game menu and did some general GUI overhaul. We been experimenting with new approaches to the GUI and created a management panel where you as a CEO will perform various management tasks such as reading email, analyzing statistics and making sure flights arrive and depart on time. We also created some fresh icons (check the image) for the different items and structures you will be able to build. Many many more will come further in the development process.
That’s it for now, back to the code. Remember to follow us on Twitter @airportceo as we usually post small updates there.
